Member Spotlight | Outperform Physical Therapy feat. Douglas Meyer
Douglas is a seasoned physical therapist with nearly 20 years of experience who recently launched his own cash-based practice focused on orthopedics, sports medicine, and hip care. Based at Thrive Centennial, he offers personalized one-on-one sessions often including dry needling. He brings strong passion, expertise, and a refreshing approach to patient care.
THRIVE: Tell us about what your company does.
DOUGLAS: Provide physical therapy services with an emphasis on orthopedics and sports medicine. A main area of focus is on hip conditions. Dry needling services provided as applicable with all PT sessions. I am also a dry needling instructor, teaching post-professional dry needling courses all around the US and up in Canada so I travel quite a bit.
THRIVE: How long have you been in business?
DOUGLAS: I have been a physical therapist for almost 2 decades, but just started my own cash-based practice back in November of 2024.
THRIVE: What inspired you to create your business?
DOUGLAS: After spending the past several years working as a staff PT and eventually taking on Leadership roles, I decided it was time for me to branch out, improve my work/life balance and really be able to provide the 1-on-1 care that patients truly deserve.
THRIVE: What was your biggest success in the past year?
DOUGLAS: My biggest success is taking the leap and starting my own cash-based practice! I have been extremely fortunate to have a close relationship with many medical providers in the area who have helped make my first 7 months a success!
THRIVE: How has Thrive supported your business?
DOUGLAS: Thrive has been a phenomenal environment to work out of, providing all the major necessities I need to run a successful business. The monthly events put on by Thrive are not something you get at a traditional clinic, the fun and laid-back setting is enjoyed by myself as well as my patients, and the warm smiles that the Centennial site team provides makes coming to work each day fun which not everyone can truly say!
THRIVE: What recent challenge did you face?
DOUGLAS: Honestly, I haven’t really had any recent challenges since starting my own practice and getting established at Thrive. Any little “issues” I run into with technology or site-related stuff are promptly addressed when I touch base with the Thrive Centennial team. They always provide the assistance I need and never make it seem like I am a bother to them which is refreshing.
THRIVE: What’s your favorite piece of advice?
DOUGLAS: A former coworker of mine once told me “you will never grow if you continue to stay in your comfort zone”. I have then this to heart when various opportunities come up and I mentally try and talk myself out of it due to uncertainty, the unknown of not feeling like I can handle new opportunities.
THRIVE: What’s your favorite quote that would inspire other entrepreneurs and business leaders for 2025?
DOUGLAS: Honestly, I would use the same quote as above—You will never grow if you continue to stay in your comfort zone”. I also saw a quote on a coaster almost 30 years ago that read “experience is what you get when you don’t get what you want”. Still some words I live by to this very day.
